Based on the real world experiences of 15-year-old LUCHA peace activist Yalala Binja, ARISE CONGOLESE! The Story of Yalala: Episode 1, 2, and 3 are produced in English, French, Lingala, and Swahili. ARISE CONGOLESE! was proudly developed in working solidarity with DR Congo's internationally recognized nonviolent youth movement LUCHA RDC (BBC World Service) and disseminated to thousands of Congolese freedom fighters in DR Congo (and among the diaspora). In August 2018 Congo experienced it's first peaceful transition of democratic power since Congolese won their Independence from Belgian rule in 1960.
LUCHA RDC or Lutte pour le Changement (Struggle for Change) is a nonviolent, non-partisan, youth-organized citizen movement made up of Congolese from all walks, origins, and religions who share in the uniting desire for a truly independent, constitutional, democratic, and prosperous Congo. Today, LUCHA RDC poses the greatest Civil resistance to Congo's corruption. Due to this, LUCHA youth have been captured, tortured, and killed.
